Key Medicare Telehealth Flexibilities Reinstated

Earlier this month, Congress approved a funding package, the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2026 (H.R. 7148), affecting Medicare telehealth coverage. Through this package, key Medicare telehealth flexibilities are extended for multiple years. Here’s a quick breakdown:

  • Policies expanding Medicare reimbursement for telehealth preserved through 2027.
  • In-person requirement for Medicare behavioral telehealth visits is waived expanding Medicare clinician eligibility.
  • Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) and Rural Health Centers (RHCs) permitted to serve as distant-site telehealth providers for Medicare patients.
  • Audio-only telehealth services allowed for Medicare patients.
